Description: Hardbacks, half-calf, with contemporary marbled boards, rebacked retaining old spine-labels. 5 volume set. 21.5cm x 13cm. 10 mezzotint portraits including frontispieces, 3 stipple-engraved portrait plates, 9 lithographic views, 9 lithographic or engraved maps and plans (most of them folding), 1 engraved folding plate of the British Fleet at Trafalgar, 1 leaf of manuscript facsimile, 2 folding letterpress tables, list of subscribers, errata and directions to the binder and erratat leaves to each vol (no errata in volume 4, probably as issued). All plates and maps as called for bar the view of Santa Cruz in volume 3 which is often absent. 1st edition 1823-1825. Some browning and offsetting to plates. Bookplates of ecclesiastical and maritime lawyer Augustus Gostling. With it 'Addenda to the Nava History of Great Britain by Captain E.P. Brenton', 1827, 8pp, pamphlet stiched in plain paper wrappers, manuscript title on front wrapper. 8vo. Bindings a little rubbed and worn to extremities. A rather pleasing set.
